Open A.I.R.: Artist Service Program
The expanded Queens Museum features a new, expanded slate of artist services, including a brand new Studio Program, with professional development features and a networking Lecture Series that draws on human resources at the Queens Museum. Open A.I.R. (Artist in Residence) programs will offer professional development topics targeted specifically to all interested emerging artists.
Open A.I.R. is made possible by a generous grant from The Scherman Foundation’s Katharine S. and Axel G. Rosin Fund. Additional support provided by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.

Acerca del Taller:
Este taller de un día, presentado en Español, le ofrece a los artistas profesionales, en las disciplinas de Performance, Video, Arte de Sonido, Interactiva, y Nuevos Medios, una introducción intensiva de planificación estratégica, desarrollo de recursos y promoción. Este taller está basado en el currículo desarrollado por los artistas subvencionados por Creative Capital y ha sido presentado a miles de artistas a través del país. Los líderes del taller, artistas bilingües trabajando en múltiples contextos culturales, introducen una variedad de ejercicios para mejorar la satisfacción y la autosuficiencia de los participantes en la práctica de su arte. Esto incluye: presupuestos y recursos administrativos; herramientas de promoción; y práctica de comunicación que refuerzan la habilidad de abogar por uno mismo. Además, el taller se dirige específicamente a los desafíos y los beneficios que los artistas encuentran al trabajar en Español, en múltiples culturas y a menudo en un contexto internacional.
About the workshop:
This one-day workshop provides Spanish-speaking professional artists in the fields of Performance Art, Video, Sound Art, Interactive, and New Media, an intensive introduction to strategic planning, fundraising and promotion. The workshop draws from the professional development core curriculum developed for Creative Capital grantees, which has been presented to thousands of artists across the country through our core skills weekend workshop. Bilingual and bi-cultural workshop leaders, who are working artists themselves, introduce a variety of skills aiming to enhance each participants’ self-sufficiency and satisfaction with their art practice. These include budgeting and administrative resources; promotional tools; and communications practices that will strengthen your ability to advocate on your own behalf. Additionally, the workshop specifically address the challenges and assets Spanish-speaking artists face when working in multiple cultural and often international contexts.

Líder de Taller y Becaria de Creative Capital
Ela Troyano es una directora de cine nacida en Cuba y basada en New York City. Su proyecto para Creative Capital "La Lupe Queen of Latin Soul” fue nominado para el premio Alma y se presento en PBS en la serie Independent Lens. Troyano esta co-editando un libro de ensayos sobre La Lupe para Duke University Press y desarrollando un nuevo guión cinematográfico. Sus películas incluyen "Latin Boys Go To Hell” y "Carmelita Tropicana Your Kunst Is Your Waffen”. Como directora de teatro está trabajando con Carmelita Tropicana en "Ole!” y "YoTube” y preparando la nueva obra de Ricardo Bracho. Troyano ha trabajado como directora en televisión, en la serie de acción "Reyes y Rey” para Telemundo en US y para Canal Plus en España. Troyano también trabaja en instalaciones y arte digital. About Ela Troyano:
Taller Team Leader and Creative Capital Grantee
Ela Troyano is a Cuban-born filmmaker based in New York City. Her work has been shown at the Berlin Intern ational Film Festival, MoMA, the Guggenheim, the Kitchen, PBS, the Kino Arsenal and other international venues. She is currently preparing a retrospective of her work in Berlin in 2012 and a performance and installation at El Museo del Barrio presented by PS 122 with her sister, performance artist Carmelita Tropicana. Recent works include a live film performance for the New Horizons Film Festival in Wroclaw, Poland in 2011. Her films include Carmelita Tropicana Your Kunst Is Your Waffen and Latin Boys Go To Hell. Troyano has worked as a director for network and cable television in the US, Mexico and Spain. Select awards include a USA and Rockefeller Fellowships, screenwriting workshop at Sundance with Gabriel Garcia Marquez and funding from Creative Capital, the Jerome Foundation, the Ford Foundation, Latino Public Broadcasting, the Independent Television Service and New York State Council on the Arts.

About PDP
Creative Capital created the Professional Development Program (PDP) to share with a broad community of artists the tools and strategies for improved self-sufficiency and self-management that we initially developed for our grantees. Through workshops led by Creative Capital grantees and other arts professionals, PDP teaches artists about strategic planning, fundraising, verbal communication, promotion and maximizing online capabilities to help them expand their skills and build more sustainable practices. PDP has collaborated with over 80 organizations to present workshops that have reached more than 4,000 artists across the country. Our new Online Learning Program extends our reach to even more artists through a series of topical webinars.
