Solar System Walk, Vol. 2

09.21.14, 3:30 pm

This event is part of the exhibition Bringing the World into the World.

Guided 1.5 hour kids & family friendly planet hunting tour of Chris Burden’s Scale Model of the Solar System (placed in the Museum and throughout the surrounding area up to a 1-mile radius) led by educator PJ Gubatina Policarpio. Burden’s work is a scale model, both in size and distance, of the solar system where The Sun is represented by a sphere 13 inches in diameter and 40 inches in circumference and is placed just above the Bronx on the Panorama of the City of New York at the Queens Museum. Each planet of the solar system is constructed at the correct scale and is placed at the correct distance in relation to The Sun across and beyond Flushing Meadows Corona Park into the neighborhood of Corona.  The tour will start at The Sun situated at the Queens Museum and end at Pluto located at local eatery Leo’s Latticini (46-02 104th St., Corona). This is the second of three tours organized by Amateur Astronomers Society of Voorhees which will take place throughout the run of the exhibition. For more information and to RSVP (free, but spots are limited) please email: exhibitions@queensmuseum.org.
