Composed of a number of event- and performance-based projects, including many off-site programs, Queens International 2013 is charged with idiosyncratic and unexpected insights and approaches. 38 artists and collaboratives present community engaged experimental programs, investigations into obscure local vernaculars, performances that challenge the new Museum spaces, conventional sculptural objects and audience participatory happenings, the exhibition teems with ambitious artistries that challenge boundaries of media, methods, and concepts in current creative productions and museum practices alike.

QI artist Lynley Bernstein‘s Fishing for the Elusive Snakehead, a 2.5-hour guided fishing trip in search for the infamous Snakehead fish identified by the City authority to inhabit in waterways in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. QI Bulgarian Collaborative artist, Milena Deleva presents Smuggle Gobbledygook (Book Crossing & Literary Flash Mob), a multilingual book exchange and public reading event that converges in the Museum Cafe.

Poets in the Galleries with Stephen Motika. Meet us in the Cafe and join the poet in an interactive reading and gallery walkthroug of Queens International 2013. Motika is the editor of Tiresias: The Collected Poems of Leland Hickman (2009) and the author of the poetry chapbooks Arrival and At Mono (2007) and In the Madrones (2011). His first book, Western Practice, will be published by Alice James Books in April 2012. Recent work has appeared in At Length, The Brooklyn Review, Eleven Eleven, The Boog City Reader 4, and The Poetry Project Newsletter. A 2010-2011 Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Workspace Resident, he is the program director at Poets House and the publisher of Nightboat Books.

QI artist Richard Garet presents Mnemonics: for Space Invaders, a live performance to create 8.1-channel surround-audio environment in the museum's new wing's 50,000 sq. ft. space
