The Queens Museum’s summertime staple, Passport Thursdays: International Dance, Music, and Film Series, returns for another exciting season featuring some of the many international locales that fuel Queens’ cultural and artistic vitality. This year’s adventure includes stops in Ecuador, Ethiopia, India, and Taiwan. So leave your baggage at home and bring a picnic blanket out to Flushing Meadows Corona Park for an evening in the shadow of the majestic Unisphere. There will be free artmaking workshops for families before the films start, our cafe will remain open until 8pm, and we won’t let a little rain spoil the fun, we’ll just move the whole event indoors.

Regresa Jueves de Pasaporte Serie de Danza, Música y Cine al Aire Libre, evento ya tradicional de verano en el Museo de Queens. La serie comienza una nueva temporada presentando a varios locales internacionales que alimentan la vitalidad artística y cultural del condado. Este año la aventura incluye paradas en Ecuador, Etiopia, India, y Taiwán. Por lo tanto deje su equipaje en casa y traiga un picnic al Parque de Flushing Meadows Corona, para una velada a la sombre de la majestuosa Esfera Mundial. Habrán talleres de manualidades para niños y sus familias antes de que empiece la película y nuestras gallerías y café permanecerán abiertas hasta las 8pm, y en caso de lluvia el evento tomara lugar dentro del museo.

Film: El Grill de Cesar / Cesar’s Grill (Darío Aguirre, 2013, 88 min, Spanish with English ST)

The filmmaker’s father expected his son to take over his grill restaurant in Ecuador, but he decided to pursue art in Germany instead. After years of no contact, saving the failing restaurant becomes their joint project. Cesar’s Grill tells the story of the vegetarian filmmaker’s return to Ecuador to solve the problems of his passionately carnivorous father with ideas that might, at best, work out in Germany. What starts out as an absurd mission, develops into a touching story about unfulfilled expectations and mending a father-son relationship. See the trailer here.

Película: El Grill de Cesar / Cesar’s Grill (Darío Aguirre, 2013, 88 min, En Español con subtítulos en Inglés)

El padre del cineasta esperaba que su hijo se quedara a cargo de su restaurante en Ecuador, sin embargo su hijo decidió estudiar arte en Alemania. Después de varios años sin contacto, el salvar el restaurante llega a ser su primer proyecto juntos. El Grill de Cesar cuenta la historia del regreso de un cineasta vegetariano a Ecuador para resolver los problemas de su apasionado y carnívoro papa con ideas que en su mejor luz son exitosas en Alemania. Lo que empieza como una misión absurda se convierte en una historia acerca de expectativas no alcanzadas y el restablecimiento de una relación de padre e hijo.  Vean el trailer aquí.

Ñukanchik Llakta Wawakuna provides Ecuadorian immigrant families an opportunity to strenghten their cultural identity through learning folkloric dance, Spanish and Kichwa languages, and indigenous knowledge. For Passport Thursdays, Wawakuna, along with collaborators Tukulla Jatarishun and Comunidad Andina, come together to sharing their Andean culture with the world through a presentation of folkloric dance and music.

Presentación: Ñukanchik Llakta Wawakuna prove la oportunidad a familias migrantes Ecuatorians de enriquecer su identidad cultural a través del aprendizaje de danzas folclóricas y de la lengua indígena Kichwa. Para Jueves de Pasaporte Wawakuna, en colaboración con Tukulla Jatarishun y Comunidad Andina, se unen para compartir su cultura Andina con el mundo a través de la presentación de folklor, danza y música.
