The artworks in this exhibit were produced within the last year in New New Yorkers, a program at the Queens Museum in long-term collaboration with the Queens Library. Through free multilingual workshops, the program aims to enrich and broaden the horizons of new immigrants in New York City, teaching valuable life skills through the arts. New New Yorkers offers adult immigrants the chance to interact closely with exhibitions and accomplished professional artists. It also introduces participants to a new community of friends, as well as opportunities for student-led initiatives at the Museum and within the city. Most importantly, it gives members a safe space for personal creative expression at a time when being an immigrant in this country is more difficult than ever before. The New New Yorkers strive to create an atmosphere of trust and camaraderie to help rebuild the support network that new immigrants left behind in their countries of origin.

The works on view express the diverse cultures of New New Yorker members in a range of art styles and techniques. They stem from workshops offered in 2018-2019 including Sun Print Bookmaking, Korean Painting on Wood, Advance Sculpture, Mentoring Program, Creative Watercolor, Printmaking, Fun Basic Sculpture, Basic Drawing, and ESOL & Art.

Estas obras fueron producidas durante el último año por los New New Yorkers, un programa en el Museo de Queens en colaboración a largo plazo con la Biblioteca de Queens. A través de talleres multilingües gratuitos, el programa tiene como objetivo enriquecer y ampliar los horizontes de los nuevos inmigrantes en la ciudad de Nueva York, enseñando valiosas habilidades para la vida a través de las artes. New Yorkers ofrece a los inmigrantes adultos la oportunidad de interactuar estrechamente con exposiciones y artistas profesionales consumados. También presenta a los participantes una nueva comunidad de amigos, así como oportunidades para iniciativas dirigidas por estudiantes en el Museo y dentro de la ciudad.
