A league of time-traveling beings from alternate worlds is heading towards earth to restore peace in the universe!

Join us at Queens Museum for the culminating workshops in a series organized together with Sugar Hill Children’s Museum of Art & Storytelling. Children and their families will respond to a series of writing and storytelling prompts inspired by the work in the Queens Museum exhibition, Mundos Alternos: Art and Science Fiction in the Americas and create their own science fiction story of time travel inspired by their family, neighborhood, and culture!

This workshop and tour is ideal for children ages 6 to 10!

The workshop includes a special children’s tour of the Mundos Alternos exhibition where families will interact with the various works in the exhibition. The tour will be led by teaching artists Sherese Francis and Greg Corbino, as well Director of Exhibitions and Curator Hitomi Iwasaki.

About the Teaching Artists

Sherese Francis
Sherese Francis is a southeast Queens-based poet, literary artist, workshop facilitator, and literary curator of the mobile library project, J. Expressions. She has published work in journals and anthologies including Cosmonauts Avenue, No Dear, Apex Magazine, La Pluma Y La Tinta’s New Voices Anthology, The Pierian Literary Review, Bone Bouquet, African Voices, Newtown Literary, Blackberry Magazine, Kalyani Magazine, and Near Kin: A Collection of Words and Arts Inspired by Octavia Butler. Additionally, she has published two chapbooks, Lucy’s Bone Scrolls and Variations on Sett/ling Seed/ling. Currently, she is the co-editor and board member of the small press, Harlequin Creature, and a core member of the Southeast Queens Artist Alliance.

Gregory Corbino
Gregory Corbino is a Queen Museum educator, performing artist and designer living in Brooklyn. As an educator, Gregory has extensively worked with elementary students throughout the five boroughs, empowering young artists to stretch their creative sensibilities through movement, music, and using unconventional materials (like trash!) to create masterpieces. His performance practice as a singer, puppeteer and dancer has brought him to four continents building multidisciplinary performances and facilitating vocal, puppet, and parade workshops. He is also the producer of the Queens Museum annual fundraiser, The Spooktacular, designing and building a fantastical carnival installation for families made entirely of reused materials.

¡Una masa de seres que viajando en el tiempo desde mundos alternos se dirigen hacia la tierra para restaurar la paz en el universo!

Únate a nosotros en el Museo de Queens y se parte de los ultimos talleres,  de una serie organizada junto con el Museo de Arte y Cuentos de Sugar Hill Children. Los niños y sus familias responderán a una serie de sugerencias escritas y narraciones inspiradas las obras de la exposición Mundos Alternos: Arte y ciencia ficción en las Américas en el Museo de Queens. Ellos crearán su propia historia de ciencia ficción, historias  de viajes en el tiempo que estaran inspiradas en sus familias, sus barrios… ¡y en la Cultura!

¡Este taller y tour es ideal para niños de 6 a 10 años!

Este taller incluye un recorrido especial para niños donde podran visitar y observar la exposición Mundos Alternos, alli  las familias interactuarán con las diversas obras de la exposición. La gira estará dirigida por los artistas y educadores Sherese Francis y Greg Corbino, además Hitomi Iwasaki, directora del departamento de curadoria del museo.

Sherese Francis

Sherese Francis es una poeta, artista literaria, facilitadora del taller y curadora literaria del sudeste de Queens. Sheresebtrabaja en el proyecto de la biblioteca móvil, J. Expressions y ha publicado trabajos en revistas y antologías, entre ellas Cosmonauts Avenue, No Dear, Apex Magazine, New Plumas, La Pluma y La Tinta, The Pierian Literary Review, Bone Bouquet, African Voices, Newtown Literary, Blackberry Magazine, Kalyani Magazine y Near Kin : Una colección de palabras y artes inspirada en Octavia Butler. Tambien ha publicado dos libros de capítulos, Lucy Bone Scrolls and Variations on Sett / ling Seed / ling. Actualmente es coeditora y miembro de la junta de la pequeña prensa, Harlequin Creature, y miembro central de Southeast Queens Artist Alliance.

Gregory Corbino

Gregory Corbino es un educador del Queen Museum, artista y diseñador que vive en Brooklyn. Como educador, Gregory ha trabajado extensivamente con estudiantes de primaria a lo largo de los cinco condados, lo que permite a los jóvenes artistas aumentar su sensibilidad creativa a través del movimiento, música y uso de materiales no convencionales (como basura) para crear obras maestras. Su práctica como cantante, titiritero y bailarín lo ha llevado a cuatro continentes que inclyen presentaciones multidisciplinares y facilitando talleres vocales, de títeres y desfiles. También es el productor de la recaudación de fondos anual del Museo de Queens, The Spooktacular, que diseña y construye una fantástica instalación de carnaval para familias hecha completamente de materiales reutilizados.
