Join us for the third in a series of dynamic public programs presented on the occasion of Queens International 2018: Volumes (QI 2018) to delve deeper into the themes, contexts, and aesthetics that have informed the exhibition.
Programming on February 10th includes panel discussions, talks, screenings, and other events that examine the poetics of perception, technology, and scientific inquiry, as it relates to the creation of historical and personal narratives. This day of public programs will also coincide with the QM Studio Program Open Studios!

1:30pm: Performance by QI 2018 artist Emilio Martinez Poppe

End Credits for the Places That Make Us (2018-2019) is a participatory art project that invites reflection and collective recording of the ways that memories of urban places are reflected in our bodies, in language, and in the world around us. Since the artist’s participatory installation went live at the opening of QI 2018, the piece has become a growing record of places the museum’s visitors care deeply about. Emilio Martinez Poppe will activate this collection through a spoken word piece that brings together text from the entries made over the past four months.
2:00-4:15pm: Screening of Milford Graves Full Mantis and Post-Screening Discussion & Q+A with QI 2018 artist Milford Graves, Jake Meginsky, and Christoph Cox

Milford Graves Full Mantis is the first ever feature-length portrait of renowned percussionist Milford Graves, exploring his kaleidoscopic creativity and relentless curiosity. Graves is a founding pioneer of avant-garde jazz, and he remains one of the most influential living figures in the evolution of the form. The film draws the viewer through the artist’s lush garden and ornate home, into the martial arts dojo in his backyard and the laboratory in his basement – all of this just blocks from where he grew up in the housing projects of South Jamaica, Queens.
Queens Museum is pleased to welcome Graves, Full Mantis director and composer Jake Meginsky, and author Christoph Cox for an exciting discussion and Q+A following the film. Speaker bios can be found here.
3:00-4:30pm: The People’s Guide to the Queens International Writing Workshop
(The People’s Guide Writing Station, next to the Cafe, 1st Floor)
The People’s Guide to the Queens International is a collaborative art project organized by Brian Droitcour and Christine Wong Yap. The People’s Guide invites the public to write reviews of artworks in the Queens International 2018 exhibition on the premise that anyone can be an art critic.
4:30-6:00pm: Capitalist Casualties: Gender, Technology, and the Virtual Body

Join us for a panel discussion focusing on the relationships between social systems of control and their implications on the body. How are we instrumentalized, tracked, and monetized at work, in digital space, and through algorithms? How is computational and political power entangled with our bodies in a time when we are solicited as much as we are connected?
