This 8-week series of films highlights the dramatic possibilities of altered time and space. In conjunction with the QM’s exhibit, Mundos Alternos, we will explore not only traditional sci-fi, but “alternate worlds” whose characters interact with the supernatural.
Each film is introduced by Mark Ethan Toporek, who also leads a post-screening discussion. He is a member of the Actors Studio, who has appeared in films including The Secret Lives of Dentists, The Confession and Lesser Prophets. He has been presenting the Film Series at the Queens Museum since 1998, and at Manhattan’s 92Y since 2003.
Gattaca (1997), directed by Andrew Niccol, 112 min. In a world of genetically engineered perfection, a young man with human imperfections (Ethan Hawke) challenges the system to pursue his dream of space travel. Also starring Uma Thurman and Jude Law.
This film series takes place in the second-floor theater and is free with Queens Museum admission and open to the general public (with a special invitation to older adults).
