Join us for an eight session workshop series led by VIP Mujeres for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Participants will have the opportunity to explore several artistic mediums to promote personal healing, share stories in a safe space, and advocate for the wider survivor community.

The workshops are a space for participants to breathe together. They will take time to imagine a future where what they want is real:writing letters to themselves and painting transformational self-portraits. They will explore poetry as a way of expressing their inner selves—their experiences, thoughts, feelings, and what they observe with their senses. Using movement and voice, workshop participants will remind themselves that there are many ways to speak and listen and be together without words, and that our bodies can tell stories. Through improvisation and theater they will allow their instincts to surprise them and feel how freeing it can be to trust themselves and each other.

Through sharing stories and witnessing each other as a group, they’ll connect as humans and open new perspectives on themselves. Through digital storytelling, participants will have a chance to help fellow survivors feel less alone, to connect with others to raise awareness about the challenges survivors face, and advocate for the futures they want for themselves. Sessions will be held bilingually in Spanish and English.

Space is limited for this workshop series. To apply, please fill out this form. You will receive a phone call to confirm your participation.

Join us for our upcoming workshops on May 16, May 23, May 30 and June 6.

About Violence Intervention Program (VIP): Founded in 1984 by grassroots Black and Latina activists, Violence Intervention Program (VIP) has led the response to gender-based violence for nearly 4 decades and remains deeply rooted within Latinx and communities of color throughout New York City. Today, VIP continues to be Latina-led and is the only culturally-specific organization in NYC serving Latinx survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

For over three decades, VIP has offered lifesaving, culturally-specific crises response services to Latinx and other vulnerable victims of domestic and sexual violence.

VIP’s live-operated 24-hr bilingual hotline is the entry point to our programs. After an initial screening and assessment, survivors are connected to emergency shelter, transitional housing, counseling, economic justice or other services based on their need.
