Event - Teen Power: Political Futures

Teen Power: Political Futures

10.09.21, 11:00 am

The Queens Museum is excited to offer NYC teen high-schoolers an opportunity to participate in a 2-part workshop centered on critically and creatively questioning the U.S. Constitution with Year of Uncertainty artists Alex Strada and Tali Keren.

For the first part of the workshop, artists Alex and Tali will be joined by CUNY Law Professor Charisa Kiyô Smith. Together we will explore the rights and impact of minors, and what it means for the voting age to be 18 given existential crises such as climate change and the pandemic. Participants will then learn how to interview and record conversations centered on imagined amendments to the Constitution, engaging the possible transformation of an unequal system.

The second part of the workshop is a listening session where we will gather to share our recorded findings and create a collective soundtrack, which will be incorporated into the Year of Uncertainty exhibition, which opens at the Queens Museum in fall 2021. This 2-part workshop is ideal for students interested in activism, civic engagement, conceptual art, collaboration, and podcasting.
