In April, we invite families to explore several new exhibitions including Queens International 2016, our biennial of Queens-based artists with a focus on how the boroughs diverse artists engage in international collaborations, as well as Hey Ho, Let’s Go: Ramones and the Birth of Punk. 

130-430pm:  Drop-in Artmaking Workshop – Make your own Album Cover Art
Inspired by the art of the Ramones exhibition, design an album cover featuring your own family as a band. Location: Werwaiss Gallery, 2nd Floor

1:30-3:30pm:  In celebration of International Children’s Day, the folkloric cultural group Raices Andinas will present a short youth dance demonstration and artmmakingworkshop. Location: Unisphere Gallery, 2nd Floor

130-330-pm: Re-imagine the NYS Pavilion Ideas Competition Workshop, Location: Behind the Grand Staircase, 1st Floor

RPGA Studio and People for the Pavilion invite families to:

  • Try on virtual reality head gear to see a short video about history of the New York State Pavilion (located adjacent to the Queens Museum) and how it might be reimagined.
  • Look through stereoscopes to see two alternative uses for the “Tent of Tomorrow”
  • See a 3D printed Tent of Tomorrow reimagined with new architectural details.
  • Submit your ideas for future use by either pencil and paper or by working with our designers using CAD software

230-330pm: Mariachi Band Open Rehearsal as part of “Las Reinas” a project by Queens International artists Jesus Benavente (Queens) and Felipe Castelblanco (Colombia)

Mariachi Real de Mexico

Two mariachi bands, Mariachi Real de Mexico in Queens and one in Colombia will collaborate collectively to write a new song with the artists via Skype. They will work across and despite cultural, social, and economic borders to cultural appropriation and (mis)translation, and have open rehearsals along the way.
