Join us for a live Rube Goldberg Machine Contest, a chain reaction activity with NYSCI, and a special tour on the occasion of the closing day of The Art of Rube Goldberg exhibition at the Queens Museum! The Art of Rube Goldberg is the first comprehensive retrospective exhibition since 1970 to celebrate the groundbreaking artwork of one of the most influential cartoon illustrators of the twentieth century.

Queens Museum is proud to be a regional host for the 2020 Rube Goldberg Machine Contest. Come see the machines that four local Apprentice level teams (ages 8-11) created to fulfill this year’s Rube Goldberg task: Turn off a Light. We’re thrilled to be welcoming students from P.S. 14 and P.S. 92, both in Corona, to share their creative work in the QM atrium.

See the teams’ machines in action at 1pm then stick around for judges’ announcement ceremony and a special tour of the exhibition by Goldberg’s granddaughter and Legacy Director Jennifer George following the contest.

From 1:30-4pm, work with New York Hall of Science Explainers to build a chain reaction using your own ingenuity and contraptions to turn on and off the lights. Check out this video to learn more about how the NYSCI team makes their own chain reaction machines!

This activity will be conducted in Spanish and English. Please note that this is an all ages activity that welcomes families with children.

About the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest: A Rube Goldberg Machine Contest (RGMC) is an event where students of all ages compete with machines that they have imagined, designed and created in a fun and competitive forum. The competitions encourage teamwork and out-of-the-box problem solving, in a fresh learning environment and level playing field. All you need is a good imagination and a pile of junk!

Concurso sobre las máquinas de Rube Goldberg: División de aprendices en vivo

¡Únete a nosotros para el concurso en vivo sobre las máquinas de Rube Goldberg, una actividad de reacción en cadena con NYSCI y un recorrido muy especial el día de clausura de la exposición El arte de Rube Goldberg en el Museo de Queens! El arte de Rube Goldberg es la primera exposición retrospectiva e integral que desde 1970 se ha realizado para celebrar la obra innovadora de uno de los ilustradores de dibujos animados más influyentes del siglo XX.

El Museo de Queens se enorgullece en ser el anfitrión regional para este concurso sobre las máquinas de Rube Goldberg en el 2020. Ven a ver las máquinas que cuatro equipos locales de nivel de aprendices (de entre 8 a 11 años) crearon para cumplir con la tarea de Rube Goldberg de este año: apagar una luz. Estamos encantados de recibir a los estudiantes de los colegios  P.S. 14 y P.S. 92, ambos de Corona, quienes compartirán sus muy creativos trabajos en el atrio Museo de Queens.

Vean las máquinas en acción a la 1 p.m., luego quédense después del concurso para la ceremonia de anuncio de los jueces y para gozar de un recorrido especial de la exposición a cargo de la nieta de Goldberg y la directora del legado, Jennifer George.

De 1:30-4pm, trabaje con los explicadores del Salón de Ciencias de Nueva York para construir una reacción en cadena utilizando su propio ingenio y artilugios para encender y apagar las luces. ¡Miren este video para obtener más información sobre cómo el equipo de NYSCI hace sus propias máquinas de reacción en cadena!
