Event - Recording Session for Endangered Languages

Recording Session for Endangered Languages

05.29.16, 12:00 pm

We are calling on speakers of endangered languages in Queens and throughout NYC to visit the Queens Museum to participate in a recording session intended to help document endangered languages. A facilitator from the Endangered Language Alliance will operate a recording booth where participants can contribute a story, a conversation or simply memories of a family language to a growing archive documenting NYC’s linguistic diversity.

RSVP is not required but encouraged. Please email: perlin@elalliance.org to reserve a time in the sound booth, or simply visit us on May 29 between Noon and 5pm and we will accommodate you with an open time slot.

This event is part of a series of programs associated with Nonstop Metropolis, a publication edited by Rebecca Solnit and Joshua Jelly-Schapiro launching at the Queens Museum in November 2016, and a mural commission by artist Mariam Ghani, The Garden of Forked Tongues, currently on display at the Queens Museum through July 2016.
