Join us for a series of painting workshops led by Aliza Nisenbaum and participants in the Arte e Identidad: Un Taller de Pintura con Aliza Nisenbaum. This final workshop in the series led by Miguel Flores will focus on portraiture and explore issues of figurative representation through perceptual painting. 

Painting will be used as a tool to enhance powers of observation and imagination. Fundamental elements of visual representation, including mass, shape, line, gravity, composition, value, and texture, will be explored in relationship to the body and the face.

Participation is limited to 10 people and advance registration is required. Materials will be provided. The workshop will be conducted in Spanish with simultaneous interpretation in English. Registration opens at 12pm on April 23, 2023. Please register here. 

About Arte e Identidad: Un Taller de Pintura con Aliza Nisenbaum

Arte e Identidad: Un Taller de Pintura con Aliza Nisenbaum was a workshop series created for volunteers with the La Jornada and Queens Museum Cultural Food Pantry and taught by Aliza Nisenbaum at Queens Museum between September 2022 and March 2023. The series taught the fundamentals of drawing and painting while exploring issues of art, identity, agency, and language. With a responsive syllabus designed around participants’ interests, an initial overview of introductory art history evolved into an artmaking and conversation series that explored topics of immigration, belonging, color, and aesthetics. The workshop offered instruction in art making techniques and provided a social space to share stories. Resulting works from participants in Arte e Identidad: Un Taller de Pintura con Aliza Nisenbaum are exhibited as part of Aliza Nisenbaum: Queens, Lindo y Querido.

About the artist:

Miguel Flores is Ecuadorian from the province of Cañar Cantón Biblán. He studied at the La Canterita School of Arts and the State University of Cuenca Faculty of Arts specializing in Plastic Arts. He teaches drawing and painting workshops to children and young people. His experience includes making murals in his hometown, restoring religious murals in churches, and participating in different exhibitions. Miguel lives in New York and is married with three children.

Queens, Lindo y Querido Talleres de Pintura: Retrato con Miguel Flores

Únase a nosotros para una serie de talleres de pintura en la galería dirigidos por Aliza Nisenbaum y participantes en Arte e Identidad: Un Taller de Pintura con Aliza Nisenbaum. Este taller final de la serie dirigida por Miguel Flores se centrará en el retrato y explorará cuestiones de representación figurativa a través de la pintura perceptual.

Se utilizará la pintura como herramienta para potenciar las facultades de observación e imaginación. Los elementos fundamentales de la representación visual, que incluyen masa, forma, línea, gravedad, composición, valor y textura, se explorarán en relación con el cuerpo y la cara.

Acerca de Arte e Identidad: Un Taller de Pintura con Aliza Nisenbaum

Arte e Identidad: Un Taller de Pintura con Aliza Nisenbaum fue una serie de talleres creado para voluntarios con La Jornada y Queens Museum Despensa Cultural de Alimentos impartida por Aliza Nisenbaum en el Queens Museum entre septiembre de 2022 y marzo de 2023. La serie enseñó los fundamentos del dibujo y la pintura mientras exploraba cuestiones de arte, identidad, agencia y lenguaje. Con un programa de estudios receptivo diseñado en torno a los intereses de los participantes, una descripción general inicial de la historia del arte evolucionó hasta convertirse en una serie de conversaciones y creación artística que exploró temas de inmigración, pertenencia, color y estética. El taller ofreció instrucción en técnicas de creación de arte y brindó un espacio social para compartir historias. Las obras resultantes de los participantes en Arte e Identidad: Un Taller de Pintura con Aliza Nisenbaum se exhiben como parte de Aliza Nisenbaum: Queens, Lindo y Querido.

Sobre el artista:
Miguel Flores es Ecuatoriano de la provincia del Cañar Cantón Biblán. Cursó estudios en la Escuela de Artes La Canterita y la Universidad Estatal de Cuenca  Facultad de Artes especialidad en Artes Plásticas. Se ha desempeñado dando talleres de dibujo y pintura a niños y jóvenes. Ha realizado murales en su ciudad natal, así como también ha restaurado murales religiosos en iglesias y ha participado en diferentes exposiciones. Miguel vive en New York, está casado y tiene tres hijos.
