El socio comunitario del Año de la Incertidumbre del Queens Museum, Colectivo Intercultural TRANSgrediendo (CITG), se complace en presentar la proyección de una película Caer. El largometraje documental es el resultado de una colaboración entre el director Nicola Mai y CITG, una organización que defiende los derechos de las mujeres migrantes trans latinxs en Queens, Nueva York.

La proyección de la película será seguida por una serie de actuaciones celebrando a la comunidad CITG y una charla con el director Nicola Mai y las actrices.

Tenga en cuenta que la proyección de la película será con subtítulos en inglés; la conversación con el director y las actrices será solo en español.

Acerca de Caer: La película es ante todo un tributo al trabajo y legado de Lorena Borjas, la proclamada madre de mujeres latinas transgénero que viven en Queens, quien fue una de las primeras víctimas del COVID-19 en Nueva York y falleció en marzo 30 del 2020.

Sobre el director: Nicola Mai es sociólogo, etnógrafo y cineasta. Sus películas y escritos académicos se centran en las experiencias y representaciones de los migrantes que trabajan en la industria del sexo. Basándose en las experiencias y entendimientos de la agencia y la explotación de las trabajadoras sexuales migrantes, desafía las representaciones humanitarias predominantes que combinan el trabajo sexual migrante con la trata a través de películas etnográficas colaborativas y publicaciones académicas.

Film screening of Caer, by Nicola Mai: a film about the history of transgender women in Queens.  Presented by Colectivo Intercultural TRANSgrediendo (SPANISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM)

DEC 17, 2021 4pm-7:30pm –– Queens Museum’s Year of Uncertainty community partner Colectivo Intercultural TRANSgrediendo (CITG) is pleased to present a film screening of Caer. The feature documentary film is the result of a collaboration between director Nicola Mai and CITG, an organization defending the rights of trans latina migrant women in Queens New York City.

The film screening will be followed by a series of performances celebrating the CITG community, and a talk-back with director Nicole Mai and actresses.

Please note the film screening will be with English subtitles; the talk-back with the director will be in Spanish only.

About Caer: The film is first and foremost a tribute to the work and legacy of Lorena Borjas, the proclaimed mother of latina transgender women living in Queens, who was one of the first victims of COVID-19 in New York and passed away on March 30th, 2020.

About the director: Nicola Mai is a sociologist, an ethnographer and a filmmaker. His films and academic writing focus on the experiences and representations of migrants working in the sex industry. Drawing on the experiences and understandings of agency and exploitation of migrant sex workers, he challenges prevailing humanitarian representations conflating migrant sex work with trafficking through collaborative ethnographic films and academic publications.
