10AM-12PM Trees of Forests Not Yet Here: walk by Lisa Hirmer (Queens Botanical Garden)

Trees of Forests Not Yet Here is a walk for exploring human-tree relationships. Together we will trace the movement of matter between human and tree bodies in order to explore the material connectedness of the world. Through simple guided exercises this walk will invite you to pay attention to the arboreal exchanges taking place all around you and remind you of the ways that a human body is permeable to the world. The aim of the walk is to propose a changed sense of relationship between bodies and species, where boundaries are less fixed than often imaged.

The walk will take place in the Queens Botanical Gardens. Dress for walking and for the weather.

participation is free – RSVP required – click here!

2-5PM On Love: A Crystalization, walk by Magali Duzant (Queens Museum)

On Love: A Crystallization is the first in a series of walks that explore Stendhal’s theories of love in a contemporary context. The introductory leg is a walk through Queens, a borough shaped by migration and movement. In Stendhal’s narrative of love, we move through the possibility and stages of love. Walking across Queens this takes in the subtle gestures and quiet aspects of love that pervade our daily lives, from the naming of street corners, to the establishment of homes, to the roots of pride parades, as a first shade of love and place.

Walk departs at 2:00pm from Queens Museum

Walk Length: approx. 2.5 – 3 hours

Walk Level: Easy

participation is free – RSVP required – click here!

More about the exhibition:

S.T.E.P…. seeks to be an overlapping convergence and entanglement of walking, walk-based works and programming, mobilizing throughout New York.  S.T.E.P… embraces the many ways and bodies we walk while asking how walking as a creative act can challenge notions and open conversations around visibility, gender, labor, exploration, counter-mapping, colonialism, feminism, motherhood, contesting borders, community building, calling out gentrification, street harassment, (dis)ability, carbon debt, who sets the pace and measurement of the world, the power of dreams, and our entanglements between all of these and one another. S.T.E.P…. is open to all people of all abilities.
