“Paisajes Sonoros” Multimedia Performance

10.22.17, 3:00 pm

With original videos set to original compositions, Paisajes Sonoros is a multimedia live performance by Mexican composers Carlo Nicolau, violin, Vicente Rojo Cama, electronics, and Vanessa García Lembo, video artist. It features amplified violins and electro-acoustic sounds, instruments, musical textures, ambiences, and images, sometimes telling us a timeless  story that goes from an urban industrial setting to different corners of the world and outer space imagination.

Paisajes Sonoros is a project created 30 years ago in Mexico City by composers Vicente Rojo Cama and Carlo Nicolau, as an electroacoustic musical duo featuring Carlo Nicolau on the violin and Vicente Rojo Cama on electronic instruments. At the time, both composers were prominent figures in Mexico’s  avant-garde music scene. Their first concert in 1987 featured the world premiere of Erotica, a  groundbreaking composition for several electronically processed rubber balloons, stricken, rubbed and broken by Vicente, along with micro tonal violin parts performed by Carlo. The piece was recorded a few weeks later, and was acclaimed internationally by critics and colleagues. This collaboration has continued ever since. It has been presented in Mexico City, on several occasions, at the Museum of Modern Art, the National Music School and other experimental music venues throughout the years. In 2016, visual artist Vanessa García Lembo joined the project, adding video images created by her and projected while  Carlo and Vicente perform their instruments live. Paisajes Sonoros has become a multimedia project. In 2016 they performed in Mexico City at the Hacienda Del Virrey Mendoza and also at the Museo De Zacatecas, in the city of Zacatecas, Mexico.

Free on a first come basis, no RSVP necessary.  Museum Admission is by suggested donation.
