The Masala Bhangra Workout® is derived from two Indian words: Masala, which means “spicy’ in Hindi, and Bhangra, which is a traditional folk dance from the northern state of Punjab, India. The Masala Bhangra Workout® is an Indian-dance based fitness program, designed for people of all ages and fitness levels who love to stay physically active through dance and want to learn about Indian culture. It introduces high energy Bhangra and Bollywood dance movements in an easy-to-follow fitness format, and is a mechanism by which thousands of people have lost weight and become physically active. With the dance choreography directly influenced by the music and dance of modern Bhangra and Bollywood styles, The Masala Bhangra Workout® is a fresh and exciting addition to the world of fitness and dance.
After studying the Masala Bhangra Workout® for three years with founder, Sarina Jain, and Master Instructors, Mickela Malozzi and Gail Rivas, Roshani Thakore decided to become a certified instructor in 2011. She is most recently featured in the latest Masala Bhangra Workout® DVD, Bhangra Burn, has appeared on CBS Sunday Morning News, and ABC Nightline, and has taught and orchestrated Masala Bhangra Workout® classes and workshops throughout New York City. As an Indian-American, she is thrilled to be able to share her love for her culture while helping people get stronger and healthier.

Talleres de Arte Andino
Sin importar la edad, o si Ud. tiene experiencia o no, participe en estos talleres donde talentosos artistas compartirán sus conocimientos y creatividad.
Cerámica (Ocarinas-Flautas de barro)
Nada tan cercano al sentimiento andino como trabajar con las manos, la tierra, agregarle agua, darle forma, y sacar un sonido ancestral. En este taller los participantes harán ocarinas (flautitas de barro con adornos andinos).
Pintura (Motivos Andinos)
Usando pinturas, pinceles, esponjas y creatividad, lo orientaran sobre como usar el color y las formas para dejar que sus ideas se vistan de colores.
Escultura (Palomas Andinas)
En este taller Ud. hará una hermosa paloma andina, y la pintará de colores; una escultura que adornará su casa.

The Uni Project is a nonprofit committed to increasing access to books and learning opportunities through pop-up, open-air reading rooms. Based in New York City, we operate reading rooms that bring architect-designed structures, high quality books, and dedicated staff, to the city’s plazas, parks, and public spaces. We partner with community-based organizations and our circuit prioritizes underserved NYC neighborhoods.
El Uni Project es una organización sin fines de lucro comprometida a incrementar el acceso a los libros y las oportunidades de aprendizaje a través de estaciones temporales de lectura al aire libre. Basado en Nueva York, operamos estaciones de lectura que llevan estructuras de diseño, libros de alta calidad y un equipo dedicado, a las plazas, parques y espacios públicos de la ciudad. Hacemos colaboraciones con organizaciones comunitarias y nuestro circuito da prioridad a los barrios que con menor acceso a servicios.
3:00 to 6:30: Mobile Print Power
Mobile Print Power is a cooperative mobile printmaking workshop and print collective based out of Immigrant Movement International in Corona, Queens. Members of all ages from the local community learn the useful and adaptable skill of silkscreen printmaking using a mobile printmaking cart. Having learned the printmaking process, members plan and implement public mobile print projects in Corona and throughout the city. http://www.mobileprintpower.com
4:30pm: HEADLINE BAND – M.A.K.U Soundsystem
An immigrant band based in New York City. With roots in colombia (baranquilla and Bogota) M.A.K.U embodies an active quest for identity through sound and puts on a party for everyday people. Born in 2009 the band has independently released two full-length albums, one EP, and has taken their fiery grooves on tour across the U.S. and internationally including Colombia ,Canada and Africa. M.A.K.U’s distinctive sound is enriched with a variety of musical backgrounds brought to the table by each of its members. there are hints of Colombian Folklore, Psychedelic-rock, jazz and Caribbean grooves. It all comes together through a collective approach of getting things done, from composing to releasing independent records; M.A.K.U is as much about the music as it is about a way of life.
On stage MA.K.U juxtaposes traditional Colombian percussion, drum-set, synthesizers, electric base, guitar and sizzling horns, creating an explosive high energy and entertaining performance filled with unshakable grooves. Lyrically M.A.K.U talks about the realities of everyday people, encompassing love, hardships, culture, and the immigrant experience, but with a positive, spiritual and sometimes humorous spin.
Nacida en nueva york en el 2009, M.A.K.U SoundSystem es un banda de imigrantes colombianos en su mayorÃa; sin embargo los estados unidos y paraguay también están representados en el equipo. La banda ha lanzado tres álbumes, dos LP’s y un EP, y ha girado nacionalmente por los Estados Unidos e internacionalmente en Colombia, Canadá y Ãfrica.
M.A.K.U ha creado un sonido único y caracterÃstico enriquecido con una gran variedad de herencias musicales como el folclor colombiano, el rock psicodélico, el funk, afrobeat, jazz, mas otros ritmos y sonidos que han influenciado a sus integrantes a lo largo de sus vidas.
En el escenario M.A.K.U combina instrumentos de percusión tradicional colombiana, bateria, bajo eléctrico, sintetizador, guitarra eléctrica, saxofón, clarinete y trombón, creando una presentación explosiva, energética y cautivante. Las letras de sus canciones son siempre positivas y hablan acerca de las realidades de la gente común, el amor, las dificultades, la cultura, las injusticias, la libertad y de sus experiencias como inmigrantes en la ciudad de Nueva York .
M.A.K.U SoundSystem se mantiene firme, creando y produciendo música a través de y gracias al amor por la música, a las estrechas relaciones existentes entre los integrantes de la banda quienes se reconocen como familia antes que banda, y por su continuo empuje para trabajar colectivamente en todos sus proyectos. pero principalmente M.A.K.U se mantiene firme gracias a una comunidad de fans, amigos, familia y gente en la industria musical que ha apoyado incondicionalmente a la Banda.
