Event - Open House New York

Open House New York

10.15.17, 12:00 pm

For two days each October, the annual Open House New York Weekend unlocks the doors of New York’s most important buildings, offering an extraordinary opportunity to experience the city and meet the people who design, build, and preserve New York.

From historical to contemporary, residential to industrial, hundreds of sites across the five boroughs are open to visit, with tours, talks, performances, and other special events taking place over the course of OHNY Weekend. Through the unparalleled access that it enables, OHNY Weekend deepens our understanding of the importance of architecture and urban design to foster a more vibrant civic life, and helps catalyze a citywide conversation about how to build a better New York.

Join us for a weekend focused on architecture and urban design, as Queens Museum takes part in the 13th Annual Open House New York weekend, organized by Open House New York. Housed in the historic New York City Building, site of both the 1939 and 1964-65 World’s Fairs and the first home of the United Nations, the Queens Museum has become the principal center for modern and contemporary art in the borough as well home to a collection of world’s fair memorabilia.

A Queens Museum educator will conduct tours of the Panorama of the City of New York at 2, 3, and 4pm
A Queens Museum Curator will conduct a Never Built New york tour at 2pm
AIA Queens Chapter along with the Queens Museum will offer design education drop-in workshops from  11am-4pm

In November 2013, the Queens Museum ushered in a new phase in the institution’s history, completing an expansion project with the design insight of Grimshaw Architects. Doubling in size to 105,000 square feet, the museum been now embodies the overarching philosophy of openness. With daylight streaming into the new Museum through a series of skylights, and with soaring 48 foot ceilings, the entire space rings with an airiness that fits in well with its setting in a park.

Access Notes: Please note that pets are not allowed unless they are service animals for individuals with disabilities.
