Lunar New Year Celebration for Families

Celebrate the year of the Dog with folk dances, Lion Dance, and traditional arts & crafts. For the fourth year in a row, the New York Chinese Cultural Center (NYCCC) brings its signature program to the Queens Museum. This event will feature a 1 hour performance program featuring professional artists and students of NYCCC’s School of the Arts as well as a 1 hour visual arts demonstration.

 

Queens Museum educators will also be hosting drop in lantern-making workshops and storytelling about the Chinese zodiac from 1:30-4:30pm.

1-2pm: NYCC Performance Program

 

Featuring Chinese Kung fu demonstration, dances from China’s diverse regions and ethnic groups, signature performances include run-ins with a mischievous lion, classical songs played by traditional Chinese instruments, and lively renditions of our award-winning red ribbon dance performed by artists and students from New York Chinese Cultural Center.

 

2:30-3:30pm: Hands-on Artmaking Workshop

 

Hands-on Artmaking Workshop: An instructor from the NYCCC will demonstrate the art of Chinese Ink Brush Painting. Guests can try out the art and take home simple paintings they have drawn themselves.
