Come and learn about Korean painting on wood panel with artist Seongmin Ahn!

During this 6 week workshop, participants will create paintings on wood panel using multiple elements, utilizing different materials and techniques such as colored Hanji (Korean traditional paper) collage, wood carving, and traditional Korean ink/color on primed surface. The instructor will demonstrate basic strokes and techniques of Korean traditional painting, and guide the participants to design their final works combining different elements. Participants will enhance their understanding of contemporary art, in which different genres are juxtaposed and integrated.

Seongmin Ahn received her B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Asian traditional painting from Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea and a second M.F.A from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Ahn is a two-time recipient of the Pollock Krasner Foundation grant and the first prize from the AHL foundation, Visual Art Competition. She has exhibited solo nationally and internationally including but not limited to Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts (Wilmington, DE), Queens College Art Center (Flushing, NY), Gallery Ho (New York, NY), and White Wall Gallery (Seoul, Korea).

퀸스 뮤지엄에서 제공하는 이번 6주간의 워크샵에서, 참가자는 한지 콜라주, 나무조각, 한국화 등다양한 재료기법들을 복합 사용하여 나무판넬에 그림을 그릴것입니다. 참가자들은 한국화의 기본 필법과 먹, 색 사용법을 배우고 작품을 구상하고, 이렇게 습득한 기본 테크닉을 이용하여 실제 작품을 제작하게 됩니다. 이번 워트샵에서의 창의적 경험을 통해 참가자들은 탈장르와 통합이라는 관점에서의 현대미술에 대한 이해를 높이는 계기가 될것입니다.
안성민은 서울대학교 동양화과와 동대학원, 메릴랜드 미술대학원을 졸업하였다.잭슨 폴록 재단 그랜트 2 회수상, 알재단 (AHL foundation) 공모전 대상등을 수상 하였으며, 델라웨어 컨템포러리 아트센터(델라웨어), 스토니부룩 대학교 왕센터(롱아일랜드), 아이슬립 뮤지엄(아이슬립, 뉴욕), 강컬렉션(뉴욕) 뉴욕 한지프로젝트, 서울 국립 현대 미술관 등 에서 전시 해왔다.
