Introduction to drawing is a workshop where we will learn how to approach visual problems related to representation. We will emphasize the analysis and exploration of basic drawing techniques in the visual interpretation of forms. Participants in this online workshop will be introduced to a variety of drawing media.

Drawing is not about merely layering shapes; it is about understanding the importance of lines, scribbles, and values. In this course for beginners, we will learn together the fundamentals of drawing:

– Recognizing edges
– The importance of lines and angles
– Calculating proportion
– Basic knowledge of perspective
– Understanding shadows, shadows, and points of light
– Gradations of tone

Instructor: Guido Garaycochea is a visual artist born in Peru who lives and works in New York. He has exhibited nationally and internationally. He has a Master’s degree in Art History and Theory from the University of Chile and a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York. He works as the New New Yorkers Program manager at the Queens Museum and his art practice at The Elizabeth Foundation in New York.
