(Offsite) 78th St Plaza Summer Launch Party: Health, Art, Punk Rock

06.25.16, 12:00 pm

Meet your neighbors, learn about your community groups and check out some local talent with performances by punk bands The Kominas and Sonic Power Pops.

5:30 pm: The Kominas are a situationalist punk band, à la Sex Pistols, modeling themselves after punk bands in 1977 who made careers out of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. The Kominas songs are thought provoking and boundary pushing with titles including Sharia Law in the USA or No one’s gonna honor kill my baby but me.

7:30 pm: Sonic Power Pops is a Jackson Heights-based band that brings back the energy and fun of the best garage rock from the 60s and beyond.  The Pops play all your guitar-based favorites–even the ones you’ve forgotten you loved

Local community groups participating include: QNS Bike, Council Member Daniel Dromm’s Office, Jackson Heights Parents for Public Schools, Queens World Film Festival, the LGBT Network, and the Jackson Heights Green Alliance.

Funding support for activities at 78th St Plaza are provided by the NYC Department of Transportation’s One NYC Plaza Equity Program. Activities are coordinated by Queens Museum, The  Jackson Heights Green Alliance. Thanks to NICE, Chhaya, Bangladeshi memory project, Filipino American Book Festival, DRUM.
