On January 12, 2015, the Musée d’Art Haitien will have been closed to the public for 5 years. It was hit hard by the 2010 earthquake and hasn’t been fully repaired yet.
Artists and collectors came together last year at the urging of the Support Committee of the Toussaint Louverture Cultural foundation. They donated over 80 original artworks that became known as the Save A Museum Collection. It helped finance Phase I of the museum’s reconstruction which was completed in the Spring.
At the event held on November 9 at the Queens Museum, attendees will have the opportunity to view artwork, learn about the history of museums in Haiti and will be introduced to the museum’s Phase II reconstruction.
