Event - Drawing From Water

Drawing From Water

06.03.21, 1:00 pm

In conjunction with the exhibition Art As Social Action: 10 Years of Social Practice Queens, celebrating the longstanding relationship between the socially engaged Queens College MFA program and the Queens Museum, we are pleased to host Drawing From Water, a workshop on walking and water in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

Based on her walking practice, artist Erin Turner will hold a public workshop focused on perceptions of the natural world. Participants will engage with walking scores that prompt walking in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, drawing at the Unisphere, and participating in conversations about water and personal memory. Taking its name from the artist collective Drawing From Water that Erin is a part of, the activity of drawing specifically initiates a series of questions in which participants may bring diverse perceptions and alternative views into discourse.

Participants will meet at Queens Museum and depart for the workshop in the Park from there.

Participants who cannot be physically present will be able to participate by listening to a recorded score with a similar list of instructions. The link will be updated here on the day of the workshop.
