monster is a 17-minute dance to Crazy Wisdom by Viera Janárčeková, a Slovakian contemporary experimental composer. monster is based on Trio, a dance piece created in 2014. Both works used recorded music, seeking narrative through a series of abstract movements, but monster requires a stronger and more unique expression from each dancer. Now we do not just follow the structure of the music score because I have become more sensitive to the sound dancers make– the slashy sound of costume, or breath, or foot steps. I am rewriting and reconstructing the original score with these sounds and visual rhythms. Since its start, this work has been presented in New York, Pittsburgh, and Akita (Japan).
