1:30-5:30pm MOVE WITH US

MOVE WITH US_Sample Photo26_7

MOVE WITH US is a public art project asking Queens immigrant residents to demonstrate physical stances in public spaces for an animated video to illustrate the collective cultural gestures in Queens. It is about cultural pride, Queens pride, and feeling comfortable in public spaces.

Photographer, Fumi Nakamura, and artist Roshani Takore will bring a backdrop of a map of Queens and tools for a photo shoot at Corona Plaza. The artist will engage with individuals in the plaza and ask questions about home, living in Queens, assimilation, and public spaces. “€œFrom these conversations, I will ask individuals to demonstrate a personal pose – a pose that they feel represents their home (could be cultural or just a pose of confidence) in front of the backdrop. I want individuals to take up space in their new home in Queens in honor of their old home through their body. Each individual will be photographed in less than 5 poses. These poses will be added to the collection of poses from immigrant residents all throughout Queens. My goal is to collect 167 poses to represent the 167 cultures in Queens. The poses will be sequenced to create a video and essentially a vocabulary of choreography that highlights the current cultural gestures of immigrants living in Queens.
