The Queens Museum and Cool Culture are excited to present the annual Catch the Cool Family Festival! We invite ALL families to come to the Museum for a day of:

  • Art workshops
  • Musical performances
  • Storytime
  • Tours
  • Games
  • Outdoor activities
  • and much more!

This is a drop-in event and no registration is required. Rain or shine. Free and open to the public. Museum admission will be free for all family visitors this day.

There will be a free shuttle running between the Mets-Willets Point station and the Museum. We strongly encourage public transportation, parking fills up quickly.

Welcome Greetings & Prize Giveaway Announcement (Atrium, 1st Floor)
Gather for a warm welcome from Candice Anderson, Executive Director, Cool Culture, and Laura Raicovich, President, Queens Museum followed by an announcement of today’s prize giveaway winners.

2:30-3:30
Bilingual Storytime (Theater, 2nd Floor)
Presented by Ana Reza from the PAVE program. Offered every 30 minutes. (2:30-3, 3-3:30)

3:30-4:00
Truth N’ Light Perfomance (Atrium, 1st Floor)
Combining West African rhythms with the sounds of today, Drummer Joe Dyson’s “Truth N’ Light” Project is full of high energy rock and soulful melodies that children of all ages will enjoy.

Panorama Gallery Hunt (Panorama Gallery, 1st Floor Entrance)
Pick up an Art Telescope and Hunt Card to help you spot familiar places in New York City

A Day in the Life in Queens presented by Lulu & Leo Fund (Atrium, 1st Floor)
Work together to create a colorful map of your family’s life in Queens.

Musical Instrument Making (Atrium, 1st Floor)
Create a musical instrument to play along with today’s performance.

Visit the Queens Library Outreach Team (Atrium, 1st Floor)
Librarians from the Queens Library will be signing families up for their very own library cards

Mini Terrarium Making (Partnership Gallery, 2nd Floor)
Create a mini model of the relief map of New York City’s water system.

D.I.Y. Print Your Own Power Patches (Outdoors)
Inspired by the Punk Rock style of The Ramones, make a fabric patch to add to your favorite piece of clothing.

Cool Family Photo Booth and Contest (Outdoors)
Give us your best rock star pose! Like Cool Culture’s page on Facebook and add #CatchtheCool to your photo to be entered into a contest to win a Cool prize! The winning photo will be selected by May 20th.

Up in the Air: Movement Activity (Outdoors)
Sessions begin every 30 minutes on the hour, on the grass.

Watercolor Painting presented by New New Yorkers (Studio A, 2nd Floor)
Guido Garaycochea will lead a watercolor painting activity inspired by the Tiffany Glass collection located on the 1st Floor. Offered for 45 minute slots on the hour, every hour.

2:00-3:30
Stretch Out and Celebrate Spring with “I Am Yoga” author, Susan Verde (Atrium, 1st Floor)
Join author and kid’s yoga instructor, Susan Verde, for an interactive yoga sequence. Children will have the chance to decorate their own nature-themed mantra rocks to take home with them.
