Aliza Nisenbaum and James White Join the Queens Museum’s Board of Trustees

The Queens Museum is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to its Board of Trustees: Aliza Nisenbaum and James White.

Aliza Nisenbaum, an artist known for her vibrant large-scale portraits, has been involved with the Queens Museum since 2012, where she volunteered for programs to teach feminist art history and painting to local community members. In 2023, the Museum presented Queens, Lindo y Querido, a major solo exhibition of Nisenbaum’s paintings that portrayed human stories and chronicled her years-long engagement with people at the Queens Museum and its neighborhood, Corona.

“I’m excited to join the board of the Queens Museum,” said Nisenbaum. “My connection to this institution runs deep, from teaching and collaborating here to exhibiting at the Museum in 2023. Being happily embedded in this community, I’m looking forward to deepening my connection and contributing further!”

James White is a human capital strategy executive with a broad portfolio spanning cultural transformation, strategic planning, and risk management. He has served in senior leadership roles at Merrill Lynch, Bank of America, Credit Suisse, OppenheimerFunds, and Lord Abbett. Bridging his fine arts training and global institutional leadership, White’s work centers on storytelling, belonging, and expanding access. He has served on the Board of organizations focused on the arts, community, and social justice.

“I first came to New York as an art student, studying in museums across the city with a drawing pad in hand. Those borough museums were my classrooms,” said White. “Joining the Queens Museum Board feels like a meaningful full-circle moment, and I’m excited to support its continued growth and bring new audiences into its work.”

Nisenbaum and White’s appointment to the Board reflects Queens Museum’s continued commitment to leadership that values a breadth of experience, artistic practice, and community engagement. The Museum is pleased to welcome them to the Board where their experience, values, and vision will help shape the institution’s next chapter.
