Propia Visión highlights the work of nineteen participating photographers, who responded to an open call to collaborate in this ground-breaking exhibition. As the title suggests, Propia Visión focuses on what we, as Mexican photographers who have lived and worked in New York, experience in our daily lives.

Immigrant artists must transform themselves, taking on a range of jobs for their economic survival and cultural development. The nostalgia for what was left behind can be quite painful and the road to the future is sometimes hard to imagine. It is this process of transformation which we want to capture and expose through images and collective undertakings like Propia Visión.

The initial installation of Propia Visión was organized by Mano a Mano: Mexican Culture Without Borders as part of Immigrant History Week 2006 and was exhibited at The International Center in New York.

Propia Visión consiste en el trabajo de diecinueve fotógrafos participantes, que respondieron a un llamado abierto a colaborar en esta exposición inovadora. Propia Visión propone exponer lo que nosotros como fotógrafos mexicanos que hemos trabajado y vivido en Nueva York observamos en nuestras vidas cotidianas.

Artistas inmigrantes tienen que transformarse, haciendo cualquier tipo de trabajo para obtener una superación económica y lograr un desarrollo cultural. La nostalgia por lo que se deja atrás puede ser muy dolorosa y el camino hacia el futuro es a veces inimaginable. Y es el proceso de transformación que intentamos capturar y exponer en imágenes en colectivas como Propia Visión.

Esta exposición fue organizad por Mano a Mano: Cultura Mexicana Sin Fronteras por la Semana de la Historia del Inmigrante 2006 y fue expuesto en el Centro Internacional en Nueva York.
