Subway Series: The New York Mets and Our National Pastime

The Queens Museum of Art and the Bronx Museum of the Arts co-present SUBWAY SERIES ®, a dual benchmark exhibition illuminating two of baseball’s most storied franchises: the New York Mets and the New York Yankees. The project consists of two separate exhibitions, each conceptually linked to the museums’ geographic proximity to the stadiums and directly linked through their shared subway stops with the respective teams.

The New York Mets and Our National Pastime charts the team’s transformation over the years, featuring images and objects, art and non-art, as well as works by leading figures in contemporary art addressing the longstanding traditions of baseball. Several new commissioned works, including stadium-based projects, revered memorabilia from private and public collections from around the country, photography, baseball cartoons, and materials documenting key moments in the team’s history will be exhibited. Featured artists include Douglas Blau, Janet Cohen, George Corchia, Adam Cvijanovic, Jim Dow, Barbara Ess, Tony Fitzpatrick, Phil Frost, Bill Gallo, Jessica Gandolf, Mariam Ghani, Susan Grayson, Neil Jenney, Lisa Kereszi, Howard Kozlow, Geraldine Lau, Mara Faye Lethem, David Levinthal, Pia Lindman, Willard Mullin, Rubén Ortiz-Torres, Guy Péne du Bois, Michael Rakowitz, Rhoda Shebell, George Sosnak, Kunié Sugiura, William Wegman, and Kehinde Wiley. The exhibitions are curated by Carlo McCormick and Thomas Solomon.
